About me

I've written software for about 30 years - bank systems, kernels, compilers, embedded devices, big web backends - and co-founded several companies along the way. As CTO of a digital health company, I led the team behind the first FDA-authorized diagnostic aid for autism - a breakthrough device whose de novo created a new category. I spent 14 years as a non-executive director of a UK hospital group, one of the largest private providers to the NHS, and nine years on Portola Valley's town council, including two years as mayor. I'm also a real estate investor and landlord.

These days I live in Portland, build things with AI, and write about that and plenty else on the blog.
